Caracas, 21 de febrero de 2025.- (Especial) El Carnaval en Venezuela es más que una fiesta, puesto que progresivamente se ha convertido en parte esencial de la cultura nacional y en una celebración que une al pueblo venezolano y lo proyecta internacionalmente.
Esta festividad tiene sus raíces en la tradición europea y en la influencia de países como Brasil, y se ha adaptado al espíritu alegre y la creatividad que caracteriza a las venezolanas y venezolanos, dando lugar así a celebraciones llenas de color.
El Carnaval, que se ubica justo antes del inicio de la Cuaresma, permite a la población del país y a los visitantes disfrutar y festejar antes del período de reflexión que antecede a la Semana Santa.
En Venezuela, esta fiesta se celebra con entusiasmo, y cada región tiene su manera de celebrar la diversidad y riqueza cultural del país.
De esta manera, las calles se llenan de música, bailes, y disfraces creativos, sin distingo de edad o de procedencia, en una estrecha conexión con la identidad y raíces nacionales.
La historia del Carnaval en Venezuela
El Carnaval en Venezuela es una de las celebraciones más alegres y coloridas, cuyo origen se remonta a los tiempos de la colonia, cuando los españoles trajeron esta tradición de Europa.

Máscaras y comparsas son protagonistas del Carnaval en Venezuela
El Carnaval en Venezuela está lleno de tradiciones que nos hacen únicos y que reflejan la alegría, creatividad, y diversidad de nuestro pueblo.
Las comparsas y los desfiles permiten que las calles se llenen de personas bailando al ritmo de tambores, trompetas y diferentes instrumentos musicales, así como de trajes llenos de colores y figuras emblemáticas.
En lugares como Carúpano y El Callao, en los estados Sucre y Bolívar, respectivamente, así como en Caracas, las comparsas son tradición fundamental, y cada comunidad se prepara durante meses para mostrar lo mejor de su esfuerzo.
Las comparsas suelen ser representaciones de leyendas locales o escenas de la vida cotidiana, siempre con humor y alegría.
La reina del Carnaval
La elección de la reina del carnaval es una tradición que se celebra con entusiasmo y que en los carnavales de Caracas, por ejemplo, incluyen a las representantes infantiles, juveniles y a los adultos mayores; estos últimos como madrinas y padrinos.
Para ello, se realizan concursos en las 22 parroquias de la ciudad capital, y luego las elecciones respectivas, en medio de la alegría y la algarabía del público, que luego verá a sus reinas y padrinos a bordo de las carrozas que desfilan cada año, por tradición, en el Paseo Los Próceres.
Las reinas y padrinos se convierten en embajadores de las festividades, participando en desfiles, eventos y llevando el mensaje de alegría y unión a todas partes.
Danzas tradicionales
El Carnaval también es danza en Venezuela, donde tenemos variedad de bailes tradicionales que le dan vida a la celebración.
Uno de los más famosos bailes es el calipso de El Callao; un ritmo que viene de Las Antillas y que los inmigrantes africanos trajeron a la región de Guayana.
Bailar el calipso es pura energía, que se logra con movimientos rápidos y alegres, al ritmo de tambores y maracas.
Otras danzas, como la burriquita, también forman parte del Carnaval.
Este baile tiene su origen en las tradiciones españolas e involucra a hombres, mujeres, niños y niñas, que bailan simulando estar sobre una burra.
Máscaras y disfraces
Si algo no puede faltar en el carnaval, son las máscaras y los disfraces. Desde niños hasta adultos, todos disfrutan transformándose por un día en personajes llenos de imaginación.
Las máscaras, muchas de ellas hechas a mano, representan todo tipo de figuras: diablos, animales, personajes históricos o seres mitológicos.
Los disfraces también son variados y a menudo reflejan temas de actualidad, cultura pop o simplemente son una muestra de creatividad.

El Carnaval de Carúpano, en el estado Sucre, se conoce como uno de los más antiguos y alegres del país.
Las calles de Carúpano se llenan de vida con sus comparsas de colores, música y bailes, en una gran fiesta al aire libre, en la que se realizan desfiles y se disfruta de conciertos y actividades para toda la familia.
La tradición indica, por ejemplo, que cada año se haga un homenaje a algún personaje famoso del Carnaval, lo que lo hace aún más especial y único.
Carnaval de El Callao
El Carnaval de El Callao, en el estado Bolívar, es otro de los más emblemáticos y tiene su propio encanto, además de ser famoso por su música, especialmente el calipso; ritmo contagioso que proviene de la herencia afrocaribeña.
Durante los días de carnaval, El Callao se transforma en un auténtico escenario de tradiciones, donde hombres y mujeres de todas las edades se visten con trajes coloridos y se pintan la cara para bailar al son del calipso.
Los personajes como “los mediopinto”, personas que juegan a embadurnar con hollín a los que se niegan a contribuir con un óbolo, los “mineros” y los “diablos”, personajes enmascarados que bailan blandiendo un látigo para mantener el orden, son muy característicos de esta festividad.
Este Carnaval es tan único que en 2016 fue declarado Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.
